I am really interested in the music culture of Karaoke. When I was a young child, music has been a huge part of my life and during the span of my youth my mother and father had recently bought a Karaoke machine. I didn't know what is was but until my mom gripped the microphone tightly around her fingers and sang songs. I was so amazed and I wanted to try it too. From, then on my family has been singing with the Karaoke machine every weekend until it broke. I still remember my sister singing to Celine Dion's "Because you loved me." Being Vietnamese my parents primary bought Vietnamese songs to sing with. I still remember my parents singing to the song "La Dieu Bong." Having the machine allowed me to really learn how to read Vietnamese and learn new words. It was great experience, because not only did I learn how to read, I understood more and I used new words in my daily Vietnamese vocabulary. I got a voice from it and joined choir every year of my elementary, middle, and high school careers. Now, I sing Karaoke when I go out with my friends and use as a stress reliever when the week is getting to hard or I just need a break from it all. The fun of Karaoke is that not only singing the song but acting out the lyrics or dancing like the artists of the song in their music videos. I remember my friends dancing to The Black Eyed Peas song "My Humps " or Lady Gaga's "Poker Face." I really don't know much about this culture or how it started but I think it will be an interesting investigation.

Music Culture

The Music Culture that has shaped who I am as a person would have to just general 90's pop music in the USA. I remember sitting in the car listening to this song with this beat and this girl always singing "oh baby baby" and I was really annoyed. So, the only natural thing to do was to mock her to my sister because my sister would always listen to this song on the radio. But then it grew on me and I found out that this was Britney Spears's "Hit me baby one more time." That's how my start into liking pop music started. I remember the days when there was Nsync with "Bye bye bye" and backstreet boys with " The Call." These boy bands, other artist really shaped my natural attraction to pop music culture. I don't know why I was so attracted to this music but now that I think about it, there was always a certain cool beat to every song that I had heard from them. There was also Faith Hill's "The Way you love me" and Celine Dion's "That's the way it is" which were both upbeat and hopeful songs. I am a very happy person and those songs that are upbeat and positive are really songs that I associate with. Now, more recently I like songs that I can dance to. I am a person that really likes musicals too such as the "The sound of music" or "Hairspray." These days my music tastes are very eclectic with a wide variety from Lady Gaga, to Sean Kingston to Vfactory to Enya.
